NOTE: In my application, I detailed a traumatic experience I endured which caused me to have numerous Fs and Ws (around 4-5 withdrawn semesters) and plenty of Fs. This was at my previous school, the University of Maryland. I also explained what I did to overcome the challenge and get on the right track academically.
However, my recent academic performance has been an A/B turnaround with a 3.2 gpa at my current schools. I mentioned my over 10 years of work in local, state, and federal politics, including the U.S. Capitol, speaking engagements at the White House, and various lobbying I have done.
Applied to UCLA as a transfer Public Affairs major. The minimum GPA is 3.2, and I was told by the department chair that because Public Affairs is a new major, last year, there were only 18 applicants and all 18 applicants were accepted to the major (compared to around 1600 Political Science applicants and around 400 admits).
What might UCLA be looking for with my University of Maryland transcripts?
Should I be worried? Or relieved that they’re reaching out to me because I’m still being considered and not thrown in the reject pile?

Cal Poly Pomona Fall 2019 Transfer
I haven’t seen a thread for this year. It looks like there’s a general thread that was created last year but I wanted to create a separate one for all the fall 2019 or even spring transfers. Anyhow, here are my stats please follow this guide and post yours too. Good luck everyone!
Major: Geography
GPA: 3.12
AA-T/AS-T: AA-T
Pre-reqs: All completed
Golden 4: All completed
Area: San Diego (Graduated summer 2018)
Other schools applied to: SDSU, CSUSB, CSUN
My number one is SDSU since I live in SD. I’m optimistic about my chances considering that my major isn’t popular. My number two is Poly (I like that I can earn a BS in geography at poly w/o all the math) followed by my wife’s alma mater CSUSB. She’s also a U of Redlands grad with an MBA.
Anyways good luck you guys!

Paragraph Spacing in Transfer Common App Issue
For any of you guys who got to submit your essay responses to colleges in different paragraphs, how did you do it? I have a PC and I tried many ways but my pdf generation is all one big chunk of text, with all my paragraph spacings/format gone. It kills the effect of my writing, and it is very frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Auburn vs U of Alabama
Hello, I really like both of these schools but I cannot choose between them. I want to major in business or political science. I know both have a lot to offer but my parents are pushing for Auburn based on stereotypes of 'Bama. What is there do around each campus? what is the personality of the campus like? I am very interested in rushing a fraternity.

Happy to answer questions about St. Paul's
Hi! I graduated from SPS in 2017, and I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the school. I was there during a very tumultuous time (as I'm sure many of you have read), but going to SPS was the best decision I have ever made and I wouldn't trade my experience there for the world. If you have questions about academics, social life, boarding, etc, just comment and I will answer!!
Also, in case people want to know, I chose SPS over Hotchkiss, Groton, Deerfield, and Lawrenceville. They are all amazing schools and I have friends who went to all of them, so I am happy to elaborate on how I made my decision and conclusions I've drawn from speaking to friends about their experiences (all great).
MODERATOR'S NOTE:
As with all "Ask Me Anything" threads, all students/parents/alum/staff are welcome to chime in to answer questions.

TAMU Transfer Fall 2019
Hey guys, just wondering what my chances of transferring into Texas A&M's Math Department are with at most a 3.5 gpa (dont know the final grades yet) and 60 credit hours. Also, does the admissions office also take into consideration the amount of credit hours that you have taken? (i.e. 3.5 gpa with 60 credit hours vs. 3.5 gpa with 24 credit hours)
Are my chances higher of getting in with more credit hours as long as I maintain around a 3.5 gpa?

PSA - Program for System Admissions
http://admissions.tamu.edu/psa
Program for System Admission (PSA) PSA stands for the Program for System Admission offers students who are denied freshman admission the opportunity to enroll in a Texas A&M system school for one year with the intention of achieving guaranteed transfer admission to Texas A&M College Station upon successful completion of the program. Approximately 10500 students were given the PSA option.
TAMU uses predetermined class rank/test scores minimums to qualify you for guaranteed admission at various System Institutions. Most students are eligible for automatic admission at all 8 System Institutions, but some students aren’t.
The big advantage of PSA is that it does indeed provide a GUARANTEE of admission for any students who successfully satisfy the requirements. It GUARANTEES admission into a specific major as well.
The PSA was designed for students who are interested in a participating major. A&M Never recommends using the PSA to be admitted to TAMU with the intention of switching to a major you really want. They recommend taking the coursework and making the grades for your intended major and then applying as a standard transfer student, directly to your intended major.
You can still attend a system school, or other institution, but you will have to apply as a regular transfer and go through the competitive process.
What if the System Institution doesn’t have my intended major?
The major choice at the System Institution does not matter. All that matters is that the System Institution will allow you to take the courses you need for your intended PSA major at TAMU.
Can I start taking courses at the System Institution during the summer?
Yes, if you get everything set up with your System Institution. However, the PSA requires the students to complete two long semesters at the System Institution to be eligible for automatic admission. Taking summer courses is also very important if you will need to complete any prerequisite courses (i.e., Math).

College Classes
Hi all,
I have been admitted to Cal Poly SLO, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Davis for Biological Sciences. I am just wondering how hard the classes are. I have heard many things, ranging from they are easier than high school to drastically harder than high school. Thanks

Child very apprehensive about leaving home - not really engaged in college process
So our S20 is very apprehensive about college, leaving home, etc. It's a real effort to actually get him involved in the whole process at all. We have started making a college list and have focused on a number of Cal State schools in our area (we are in the Bay Area of California so SFSU, SJSU and Cal State East Bay), along with Saint Mary's College and UCSC (which is about 2-3 hours away), but he's not interested at this point in even researching/visiting the campuses. I feel like I am the one driving this whole thing at the moment.
His 2 best friends have said they want to go to Oregon State and so now S wants to add that to his list. But he told me that he would only go if they are both going also and that he would never go that far away "by himself". That makes me nervous that he would be miserable even if he had his friends there. He is definitely a homebody, quite shy and our first child to attend college, so he hasn't seen any older siblings go through this process.
Financially, it would be way easier to have him in a Cal State and/or living at home, so it's hard at times not to try to sway him in that direction. He is an above average student with a 3.72 UW GPA (taking ACT and SAT in the next 2 months), so getting into any place he has on the list shouldn't be a problem except maybe UCSC which would be a bit of a reach depending on his test scores.
I want him to have the college experience but I am also very aware that he could hate being away from home. Should he just stick with applying to places closer to home (with the exception of Oregon State)? Do others have experience with your child totally changing their mind from Junior to Senior year as to whether they want to be close to home or not? Should I just back off at this point and let him get through the ACT and SAT and applications in the fall and then worry about visiting places once he's actually been accepted?

Barnard Fall 2019 Transfer
Hi everyone! I am a freshman at a large public university currently, and I am hoping to transfer for Barnard for Fall 2019. My current school is not challenging at all, and it does not offer a path for me to go to law school and pursue a career in public interest advocacy. My boyfriend is a sophomore at Columbia right now (applying there too), so he has been a little helpful with what they are looking for in applicants! I really love the campus, and have spent a considerable amount of time there in the past semester– really hoping to be there in the fall! I am posting my stats below... I'm not sure how great my chances are!
*** Did not apply to Barnard in high school***
***White female from Oklahoma, parent's EFC is $56,000 (Barnard is need-aware for transfer applicants)***

AWARDS
Regent's Distinguished Scholar (2nd best merit scholarship)
Freshman Research Scholar (OSU's freshman research is HARD to get into)
My best letter of ref is coming from a professor last semester that basically encouraged me to transfer, and I know it will be a strong letter. The second is from another professor, but won't be as strong. My essays are very well-written, and capitalize on Barnard's foundations curriculum, joint-degree programs with Columbia, and the benefits of being a women's college!
Here are the other schools I am applying to (in no order):
Columbia
NYU
Brown
Yale
Georgetown
George Washington University
American University

Mays Business School Fall 2019 Transfer Acceptance
I’m sure everyone who applied to Mays is still as antsy and nervous as I am for your decision. They seem to be late this year rolling out early decisions. Since we are in a competitive admissions process with only 100 accepted, I wanted to create a consolidated thread for just our department. Please post your stats in this thread, or if you’ve already done so in the primary transfer thread then state that you have. Any viewers can just click on the profile and find the stats in your replies. Be sure to include major, GPA, required coursework completed, whether MGMT 211 has been taken, transferable hours (listed on your audit), any other TCR hours you may have, extra curricular, achievements, work, etc. For example, I’ll provide my stats.
Accounting Major
GPA: 4.0
Req Coursework Completed
MGMT 211 take with Blinn
45 Transferrable hours
15 AP claimed hours (TCR on audit)
60 total
Volunteer: Many hours - Created and manage a scholarship program.
Work: At the time of application, around 35 hrs of work a week. 15 at a corner store and 20 working as an insurance representative.
I encourage all Mays applicants to contribute to help give each other a better idea of everyone else applying as well as provide information for future applicants.
Good luck to everyone!

For those planning to apply this fall 2018 to transfer for next fall 2019. I know it’s early but it’s better to be prepared than not to be!
