I was curious about the actual number of students who apply to one or more GLADCHEMMS schools each year, versus the number of spots available.
For those interested, there are approximately 2,100 annual GLADCHEMMS spots and these 10 schools received around 18,700 applications in 2017. Extrapolating statistically from limited CC Prep Forum data (2016 & 2017 Prep Decision Threads with 120 responses), I estimated each prospective student applied to 3.5 GLADCHEMMS schools, implying roughly 5,300 students applied to these schools in 2017. Using anecdotal data I have assumed 85% of these accepted students actually decided to attend one of these schools.
The result was an adjusted admissions ratio of 46%: 2,100 spots for 4,500 prospective GLADCHEMMS students.
I have a Google Doc link to the spreadsheet. For each school the table shows # of applications; acceptance rate; # accepted; yield; spots available. Most of the data is recent and sourced from school websites, newspaper articles & press releases. I avoided Wikipedia, test prep and aggregation websites, and Google Search summary results.

Chance me for Flagler, FSU, etc... (visually impaired, displaced, first-gen student)
Hi! I have my heart set on Flagler College - St. Augustine, and am starting to get really worried. My SAT score sends were delayed for a bit and just sent today, completing my application, while my classmates have all heard back already. Out of six people none of them got in. It seemed so odd to me, I didn't think Flagler was so selective but I'm getting anxious.
I've applied to all colleges as a business/management major and have been working in a business program at a technical college for my senior year. The classes are scored as electives (which I mention later).
My stats are:
1360 SAT (630 Math, 730 Reading & Writing) & and a 22 on the essay (7,8,7)
3.4 unweighted GPA
3.9 weighted, with two APs
GPAs are not including this recent semester which was all As and honors)
I've done DE at a technical school for three years but the classes get scored as electives, I included my certifications:
Microsoft Word 2016, Word Expert 2016, PowerPoint 2016, Outlook 2016, Excel 2016, Excel Pro 2016, Access 2016, Photoshop CC
I've been in student government and been in a leadership position every year:
Freshman Class Representative
Student Body Treasurer
Student Government Association President
I started and ran the school Music Club, work with Relay for Life every year, and am on prom committee.
___
Outside of school I work two jobs to support my family and am in severe financial need. I'm a first-generation college student and my family was displaced by Hurricane Irma.
I've been visually impaired since I was twelve. I worked with the DBS and the Lighthouse for the Blind and was a counselor in a camp for visually impaired/blind kids. All through high school I've been told that they would be paying my full cost for college, but about a month ago my DBS representative came to my IEP meeting to inform me that the rules have changed and because I chose to get a job instead of going on disability I no longer qualify for any of their financial aid.
The other colleges I've applied to are:
FSU
UF
UCF
Saint Leo University
Johnson & Wales University - Miami-Dade
FIU
Keiser University - Flagship Campus
Mercer University - Macon
Ohio University - Main Campus
I'm just really worried about what I'm going to do. I've been working so hard, working full-time while keeping with studies and extra-curricular, and halfway through my senior year I was told that I should have taken the easy way out. If anyone can chance me for Flagler, or any colleges on this list, I would really appreciate it!

School just revoked my merit based scholarship. Can I fight this?
Hello everyone,
I am a student at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. In the state of Georgia, they have a merit based scholarship called the HOPE scholarship. You essentially need to maintain a college gpa over 3.0 to have about $150 per attempted credit hour awarded each semester if I am not mistaken.
Evidently, there is also a time limit in between high school and college to where you can receive it. They say that I took too long to receive the scholarship since I am a nontraditional student.
The issue here is that they told me this today in week 9 of a 16 week semester after they previously awarded it to me. I am an upcoming junior at the university and I still have a perfect 4.0 gpa.
While I understand that my merits do not matter if the time limit is the issue, the problem here is that I became "eligible" in January of this year. In fact, I received an email back then saying that I am receiving this scholarship because I met all of the requirements.
Had I not received the scholarship back then, I would not have enrolled in the classes that I am in currently, all classes that also currently have scores of 98% or higher.
Since we are past the "withdraw with a W" deadline, I am stuck to either pay thousands of dollars or to lose my 4.0. Has anyone been in this situation? What shall I do?

FSU Film School - 2018 Applicants
Hello,
I applied to FSU Film as a transfer student and can't find others like me anywhere. Even if you're an incoming freshman, please feel free to use this discussion to put any information you may know. If you've been selected for an interview or anything like that also. If I see other people joining in, I'll share what I've learned as well. I just want a place where we can all find a bit of peace in the midst of this selection process. :)
(excuse the username. couldn't configure anything better hehe)

What do you do when kid doesn't want to come home?
I'm a long-time lurker but first-time poster. This site helped me get two kids into awesome colleges, and I really appreciate all the information available here. So, here's the history. DS is in grad school, which we're paying for, because he got a full ride for undergraduate, and to keep things even with his sister, we felt this was the right thing to do. While he was always reluctant to come home as an undergrad, he does not want to come home at all now, except at Christmas. I can't help but feel a little hurt by this, because until he went away to school, we were always close.
We are on one coast, and he's on the other, so it's a long plane ride, but we're willing to pay for him to get here and back. He just doesn't want to. And I have to say that when he's home, it's obvious he doesn't want to be here, because he can be very argumentative and has a tendency to pick on his sister. We had a big blowup last Christmas about his attitude, which wasn't pretty, but I thought we worked things out.
However, he just informed us that he will not be coming home (as originally planned) between the end of the semester in May and the beginning of his internship in June. Instead he's going to go visit a friend in Europe (on his own dime), and he's not planning on coming home again until Christmas. Has anyone else gone through this? If so, how did you handle it? Did it get better as your kid got older? My DH says this is normal -- particularly for boys -- and we should not "guilt" him into coming home. I agree with this, but it's really hard not to let my disappointment show over the phone when DS basically lets us know he'd rather be anywhere but home. And, of course, I feel terrible that he doesn't want to be here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Princeton, Others Aim to Accept More Low-Income Students
"Princeton University in the fall will begin taking transfer students from community colleges for the first time.
Several hundreds miles south, Davidson College recently began keeping dining halls open during fall break, Thanksgiving and Easter, an acknowledgment that not all students could afford the trip home from North Carolina.
They’re small steps. But the institutions hope that if enough peers make similar moves, the nation’s highest ranked campuses could seem within reach for thousands of financially strapped students.
Just over a year ago, 30 elite colleges banded together with a goal of enrolling an additional 50,000 low- and moderate-income students at top institutions by 2025." ...

How to convince my parents I wanna go away for college?
Fyi, before anyone just assumes it's a money thing. I am paying for my own college. I will be taking out loans, and will be doing it all on my own (my grandfather may contribute some of it, however he doesn't care where I go. He will contribute regardless).
Anyway, my parents are really gun ho about me staying home for college and going to my local college (SUNY Albany). I am a transfer student, and I recently been getting quite a few acceptance letters. SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Binghamton, CUNY City (I will be paying in state tuition). I am still waiting for SUNY Stony Brook and RPI. For the out of state schools, I got into Temple University.
I am glad I got into a lot of good schools and have a decision to make, however my parents have no idea I applied to out of state schools. I have kept this a secret to them, as I have played for all the app fees. I feel my parents will be mad at me for wanting to go to school away from home, and ultimately not be happy for me. I want them to be happy for me, I want the to be proud of me, I am proud of myself for really succeeding in my academic career. Ultimately, I am afraid I will just choose SUNY Albany because they want me to, and that's where they want me to go. When really it's not where I wanna go. How can I talk about this to my parents, and hopefully have them accept my decision?
Oh yeah, I am a Computer Science Major.

Does anyone have stories where a kid didn't think they'd get into a program, but did?
I've heard that it happens every year....kids think they bombed an audition, but get it. Or the Auditioners never looked up while a kid auditions, but they get in.
I could use some hopeful stories!
Thanks!
