I have my phone interview for UT BHP on Wednesday.
Any sample interview questions from BHP grads or other applicants?

Calculating your own Engineering GPA?
Hi guys,
So I got a D in physics 1, an F in physics 2, and so I retook physics 1 at a CC and got an A, and retook physics 2 at my uni and got a C. My uni doesn't calculate the GPA in from other schools, so my main uni GPA is quite low but when I put in the classes I took at other universities, it becomes good. My question was for your resume and job interviews, can you just replace the bad grade with the retaken grade when it asks for GPA, or do you just calculate all of your grades together without removing anything? OR do you only use your uni GPA and don't even factor in the classes you took from other universities?

Sophomore For Yale?
Hello there!
I was just wondering if my chances of attending Yale are poor if I had A's and B's (ended with about 2 B's last year; 9th Grade), and for the last semester (10th grade) I had about 4 B's. However, I intend on getting all A's the rest of the year as well as the rest of High School (because I'm going to work my buttocks off for decent grades).
Anyways, my freshman year was pretty tough (I missed the last 2 weeks due to an "up top" illness; years of family abuse had finally gotten to me, despite the fact that I am now removed from it, the trauma remained). And now, I'm terrified that it may cause me to be "inadequate" for Yale?
I do know that my dad is attended Yale- so I can most likely get some pointers from him. I'm just seeking reassurance that if I had a few B's and then a streak of straight A's (beside AP courses), that my chances are considerably lower.
(Also, with ACT scores from 34-36) And I have heard that Ivy Leagues enjoy seeing a student improve over time.
Just a little worried
Thanks a ton, guys! I apologize for the wordiness.

Interview means you are on the borderline of being accepted/rejected?
Hi all,
I'm a RD applicant to Columbia Engineering. Yesterday I got an email from a Columbia alumnus to interview. I was reading on this forum and someone said that getting an interview means you're borderline ("on the bubble") of being accepted/rejected. Can anyone confirm if this is true/false? My interview alumnus guy is based in NYC, so it is not a locality thing or availability thing...(he offered to Skype/phone). I also was not expecting to get in at all quite frankly, my stats are not that amazing.
Thanks for your help

Student Performances at Hendricks, Neese, etc.
How often do students perform at Hendricks, Neese, or otherwise? I'm hoping to see students doing something artistic and entertaining during an upcoming visit in March, but, apart from a softball doubleheader and a ballroom dance, there doesn't seem to be much scheduled for the weekend that I plan to be in Beloit. At least that's the sense I get from the college website. I looked at the events calendar and the pages for Hendricks and Neese.
I'd even settle for an open mic at a local pub!

About the Bunkel Ratings
I had four messages in my PM box asking me for more information about the Bunkel Ratings I referred to last year.
Here's the deal since a disturbing number of people seem to be interested.
The Bunkel Ratings -- as well as the "competing" ratings whose name I forgot that fun is fun argued were superior to Bunkel -- are nothing more than a spoof, intended to point out how rankings/ratings use precision and quantification to give an appearance of accuracy and precision and, therefore, lend those ratings the same integrity that mathematics typically offers...when, in truth and at its core, the ultimate outcome presented in every rating and ranking system I have ever seen for boarding schools are just as subjective as anyone else's opinions here.
People who cite rankings/ratings of boarding schools do so only to shout down other openly subjective opinions by creating an illusion of credibility.
People who rely on rankings/ratings of boarding schools do so at their peril.
Sure, look at them and consider them as a part of the big picture...but give any ranking or rating system you encounter exactly 0.00 (repeating) weight over any other articulated opinions presented here that don't happen to be backed up by bogus numerical data.
The name Bunkel Index comes from a college basketball rating system called the Dunkel Index. The Dunkel Index assigns a numeric value to each college team and then, supposedly, by taking the difference between the values of teams playing each other, you can get an "accurate" point spread. Like Dunkel, the Bunkel ratings were so precise that they were calculated TO THE TENTH OF A POINT! If you rely on Bunkel or other "precise" ratings/rankings for boarding school, then why not try your hand at using the Dunkel Index to bet on college hoops games to pay for your (or your child's) tuition?
If, for some reason, you disagree with my contentions here, please understand this: Bunkel is far superior to the imaginary system that fun is fun hypes on this message board. I know it's a little more expensive, but as imaginary ranking systems go, mine is far better than his (and every bit as good as anyone else's). For $250.00 I will gladly sell you my incredibly precise Bunkel system. I just need to set up a payment mechanism and draft a license agreement replete with disclaimers and waivers that ensures you can't sue me in the event Bunkel steers you in the wrong direction as you should be expected to bear full blame if that should happen no matter which system you rely on.

Question for parents:EA or RD
My HS junior has 2300 SAT, 3.98 UW GPA and 4.72 W GPA and above average EC. She is trying to decide if she should apply EA or not. From my point of view since the odds of getting into Stanford are so low, I do not want her to ended up with rejection so early in the process with no acceptances until April. Are any benefits applying early if she is not a legacy or an athlete?

BHP- what % of interviewed students are rejected from BHP
Based on my knowledge I am pretty sure that without an interview by a BHP alumni you don't stand a chance of getting into BHP program. But what about how many students that do get an interview are rejected from BHP. It should be very few in my opinion but would like to hear your thoughts in case anyone has an idea. Thanks

SDSU Chances of Admission?
Hey guys, I'm in my second semester of senior year and the suspense is killing me. Some people tell me not to worry and others say worry, and I dont know what to think, so I decided to ask my CC family. I have a 3.72 weighted gpa and a SAT score of 1820 (Critical Reading and Math = 1260). My total eligibility index is 4236. I live in SDSU's service area. Do I have any chance of getting in?

The freaking out has started at our house.....
So, the realization that we are at about a month before everything is due has started hitting at our house. Everything is in process, but nothing is done. My husband and I are starting to be concerned over the amount of work (school work + admissions essays) that will need DD's attention over the break. DD's teachers and school have grumbled a bit about the on-line applications, so they're not getting done very quickly.
I'm starting to second guess every small phrase and action from our interviews.
None of the AO's seem to have been won over by our DD - her grades, and SSAT scores are really strong, but now I'm questioning if her EC's are enough (1 competitive sport, 2 recreational sports, 1 academic team, 1 service/leadership group). They were all friendly, seemed generally positive, but in comparison to what gets posted here, we didn't get any "wow you'd be a great addition to our student body" type reactions.
Is this second guessing typical? How do you handle the stress of getting it all done amid the chaos of the holidays?

What Classes Should I take Next Year?
So I'm trying to decide what classes is should take next year. I'm Chinese, and want to get in a top college with A's or A-'s and 4 or 5's on the AP exams. Please provide any insight and help me decide on the 'or's'
This year (9th Grade) I'm taking:
Biology
Honors Alg II (A- , did bad on exam)
Orchestra
Modern World history
Honors Eng II (B+, I have a strict teacher)
Principles of Business/Health
Roughly planned out schedules for next few years:
10th Grade:
Honors Eng II
Honors Pre-Calc
AP Chemistry
AP US History
French II
Elective: either IB Psychology, AP Environmental Science (I'll either take these sophomore or junior year to help raise my GPA since it they're easy A classes), or possible Orchestra all 4 years
11th Grade:
AP Eng Language or Honors Eng III
AP Calc AB or BC or AP Statistics
AP Biology
AP U.S. Government & Politics
French III
Elective: one that I didn't take from 10th grade if not taking Orchestra
12th Grade:
AP Eng Language or AP Eng Literature
One of the Maths I didn't choose in 11th grade
AP Physics 1 or 2 or C
AP World History or AP European History
There's a French IB program that I want to take but you have to take it for 2 years which is too late since its 12th grade already, unless I take French II online
Elective: Computer Science A, IB Psych, or AP Environmental if I didn't take it already OR Orchestra if I do it all 4 years
